Principal's Message

October 2025

This year has started off in a predictably bustling and busy manner. Sixth class children are already making important decisions for Post-Primary School. We have introduced the Ukulele this year and it is proving to be a huge success. The children have already represented the school with distinction at Table Quizes, in football, hurling/camóige and cross country running. We have been learning about local biodiversity, local authors, chess and much much more! We have had trip to the library, picked apples and baked apple tarts (thanks to Caitríona!), visited the theatre and much much more. A particular highlight was the Table Quiz and we would like to express our huge gratitude to the Parents’ Association and all those involved. Things are unlikely to settle down after the midterm so we hope everyone has a restful break so that we’re all ready for a busy few months. 

Killasonna National School is a rural, three teacher school situated two miles outside Granard in Co. Longford. Killasonna was established in 1892 and since then has been providing a holistic, well-rounded education for its pupils. 

We hope that this website provides a glimpse into the every-day life in our school. We hope you enjoy it!
