Having applied for support from Longford Sports Partnership, we are thrilled to receive a six week block of coaching from Jenny Mahon in Abbeylara Handball club. In previous months, children and members of the school community had expressed a hope to try the sport and we are grateful to all involved for making this happen. Indoor Hurling
Pupils from our school took part in a block of Indoor Hurling from the month of November to the middle of February. This was a great opportunity for them to receive training in one of our traditional sports and they really enjoyed it.
Swimming Lessons and Swim Gala
Swimming Lessons took place during the first term. Children from second class to sixth class enjoyed the bus trip to Coral Leisure Centre in the Mall Longford every Friday afternoon.
In December our school was invited to send a team to the Cavan Swimming Gala. Cameron Clarke, Malachy McGovern, Rian and Sam Scanlon took part in individual racing competitions in Back Crawl, Breast Stroke and Front Crawl. We are proud of them all. Congratulations to Sam who reached the final of the Front Crawl competition and was successful in bringing home the Gold medal to our school.
